LG’s BORDERLESS™ TVs Come to Singapore
BORDERLESS™ design and full HD LED-LCD TV range offers flawless picture quality
Singapore, November 26, 2009 - LG Electronics (LG), a major player in the global flat panel display and audio-video devices market, launched in Singapore today its Borderless™ TVs, a range of full HD LED-LCD TVs that are almost as thin as the single sheet of smoked glass it resembles. LG’s Borderless™ TVs, which come available in two models, the SL90 and SL80, were first announced at the 2009 Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) in September ‘09. They deliver picture quality as flawless as its smooth surface with the use of advanced LED backlight and other display technologies developed by LG.

The LG BORDERLESS™ SL90
The LG BORDERLESS™ SL90 uses film lamination to eliminate the gap between the screen and the bezel. A special sheet of laminate film completes the SL90’s perfectly flat surface, eliminating the line between the screen and the bezel while also significantly reducing glare. The result is a uniform, seamless edge-to-edge panel that sets a new standard in style. The screen and bezel, as well as the glasslike stand, are the same deep shade of black. With a depth of just 2.9cm, the LG SL90 is a beautiful window into a new world of home entertainment.
Inside its glossy enclosure, LG’s BORDERLESS™ SL90 hides technology that produces a flawless picture quality. An LED backlight helps produce a high dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 for truer blacks and finer gradations between grays. An anti-glare Full HD 1080p screen reduces distracting reflections, providing a cinema-quality experience. For fast-moving action, LG’s TruMotion 100Hz technology improves sharpness and fine detail while reducing motion trails for exceptional clarity.
With LG’s recently refined Invisible Speaker, the LG BORDERLESS™ SL90 provides superior sound quality without the need for unsightly speaker grilles. LG’s new slim speakers, easily hidden on the bottom of the set, delivers great sound quality and makes the TV look even more streamlined.
The LG BORDERLESS™ SL90’s ability to connect wirelessly to an entire library of digital content is as attractive as the TV itself. Bluetooth brings music, movies and photos from compatible mobile phones directly to the big screen without any cables. This same technology can be used to connect wireless headphones for private listening. A USB 2.0 port hidden on the rear of the SL90 allows even more digital content – JPEG, MP3, MPEG4 and DivX HD files – to be played on the TV using external hard drives, memory cards or thumb drives.
And while the BORDERLESS™ SL90 may be a deep shade of black on the outside, it is entirely green on the inside. It has five distinct energy saving modes and uses up to 75 percent less power than conventional LCD TVs. LG’s Intelligent Sensor, which reduces energy consumption by analyzing the light in a room and intelligently dimming the TV’s backlight, also adjusts other picture settings to improve image quality and contrast.
LG BORDERLESS™ SL80
The LG BORDERLESS™ SL80 shares the same design and technology as the SL90, with the screen and bezel blending seamlessly together. LG even went so far as to ensure that the all of the TV’s exterior components perfectly matched the color of the LCD panel when the TV is turned off.
To create the BORDERLESS™ TV design, LG used a new Injection Compression Molding (ICM) Technology for much of the TV’s body, rather than cutting and stamping parts. This created a more unified and sleeker look, trimming its depth to a mere 4.5cm at its thickest point. The combination of BORDERLESS™ design with slim depth makes the screen appear larger and helps draw viewers in, for a more engaging viewing experience.
Further improving the TV’s distinctive design are gently curved edges and a new high-gloss material that gives the LG BORDERLESS™ SL80 a finely-finished look. Injection Compression Molding technology compresses the polycarbonate resin inside the mold from the bottom, producing a perfect, flat screen. This technology will allow LG to create even more innovative panel designs by applying different levels of compression to specific areas of the TV, making curves or small flourishes possible. An added benefit is that LG’s laminating technology helps preserve the SL80’s looks by making the TV scratch resistant. This same technology, together with Anti-glare Filter Technology, also reduces reflections by up to 90-percent making this TV a pleasure to watch even in brightly-lit rooms.
The Full HD SL80 comes with LG’s TruMotion 200Hz technology, which significantly reduces motion blur and streaking in fast-moving images, using scanning backlight technology. This also brings the TV’s response time down to a blistering 2ms. In addition, a 150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio brings far greater depth to every scene, with blacks that are pitch dark and colors vivid as anything nature could create.
The SL80 also features Bluetooth and external hard drives/USB connectivity; LG’s exclusive Smart Energy Saving Plus technology helps make the SL80 friendlier to the environment, reducing power consumption while also ensuring optimum picture quality and reducing eyestrain for viewers; as well as LG’s Intelligent Sensor, which analyzes the ambient light in the room and adjusts picture settings and backlight intensity accordingly.
