Chel, Patricia, and Bing Photoshoot
Shooting with friends and shooting friends is what I call having a good time. Chel, Pat, and Bing are friends over a game of badminton that we play on Sundays. This is something we do to stay fit out of our daily work lifestyle . Allan on the other hand is a fellow photographer who is really good at the game of badminton. This was the girls’ first try at a photo shoot and I could tell it was really fun for them and it was too for Allan and me. We started the shoot with a hearty meal. I always like socializing with my models before any shoot. This breaks the ice and allows us to really get in the zone easily. This also gives us the opportunity to discuss ideas. A couple of heads is certainly better than one and you’d be amazed at a model’s response on what they have going on in their head.

Potlucks are fun and I cooked pork stew in tomato sauce that had carrots and fried potatoes. Unhealthy as it is, it tasted good. I also served vegetable dumpling known in Manila as Lumpia. This is sauted vegetables wrapped in dimsum wrapper and deep fried at high temp for a few seconds until brown and on the taste pallet is a champion. My wife prepared a desert called Leche Flan which is beaten eggs mixed with thick and regular milk topped with glazed brown sugar. Also on the menu is sauted shrimps in Vinegar - light, and refreshing. Allan brought some pastries and cakes from Coffee Bean, good stuff. We were all full to the heart’s even before the shoot began and this tends to drag down the shoot. I would recommend a light meal like soup, bread, salad, and some fruits. Anyway, similar to what I mentioned earlier, good food plus good friends equals good time. (Click HERE for the full gallery and the metadata).

My advise when shooting friends is to keep it simple so everyone enjoys. As your friends enjoy being shot over time, then a concept shoot can brainstormed so you can take your friendship and love of photography to the next level.

On this shoot I used my favorite lineup of Tamron Lenses, the 28-75 f2.8 and the Macro 180. The 28-75 workhorse allows me to get close to the model and this proximity gives me the opportunity to chit chat allowing for a good communication while on shoot. I also love how close and much detail the macro can get from a really tight close-up shot. While in the past, I never even thought of using a macro, I much depend on it nowadays because of the sharp images it delivers and the ability of the lens to find and show the detail of a subject unseen from a none macro lens. These lenses are also fast and to call the Tamron a 3rd party lens is a misleading term because the flexibility and the features it offers exceeds that of the original mounts. Get your money worth and be wise that the Tamron is worth every buck.
Take care…… Chris
