Farewell Bike

Honda CB400

I first rode a motorbike back in the 90s in the province of Bicol, Philippines. I was still dating my girlfriend back then who is now my beloved wife. I rode a 50cc Yamaha scooter that belonged to my father-in-law and this was when I first fell in love with bikes.

Bikes are a different breed of vehicles. Sure it is not as privileged as cars but the joy people get out of bikes are incomparable to even the most expensive Mercedes. Bikes are typically low, a lot lighter than cars, consumes far less fuel, generally cheaper to buy, and maintenance basically costs a couple of dimes. But what do riders love about bikes? The wind that blows through the whole body, the engine being right in between your legs, feeling the power of your engine as you rev up, and most of all is the complete feeling of freedom. Ask a biker what ride they prefer going to work and without hesitation, the answer is definitely, by bike. Cars are just alternativse due to the weather.

Patricia, Chel, and Bing Photoshoot

Chel, Pat, and Bing Photoshoot

August 24, 2009, Singapore

Shooting with friends and shooting friends is what I call having a good time. Chel, Pat, and Bing are friends over a game of badminton that we play on Sundays. This is something we do to stay fit out of our daily work lifestyle . Allan on the other hand is a fellow photographer who is really good at the game of badminton. This was the girls’ first try at a photo shoot and I could tell it was really fun for them and it was too for Allan and me. We started the shoot with a hearty meal. I always like socializing with my models before any shoot. This breaks the ice and allows us to really get in the zone easily. This also gives us the opportunity to discuss ideas. A couple of heads is certainly better than one and you’d be amazed at a model’s response on what they have going on in their head.

Father and Child, through the Eyes of a 50mm Lens

Ricci and Pola VertucioThis lens in the old times came as a kit in full sized film cameras which is why the lens is popular with seasoned photographers. I came to like this lens as I saw what I believe is a 50mm lens on a camera being used in a movie called Blood Diamond. Nothing special really except that I love the simplicity in the way that it was used.  This movie was the trigger for me to dive into being a fan of the 50mm and this was the first lens I bought after my kit. I love the idea that 50 mm is light and shoots really fast. Mine is a 50mm Sony f1.4 and I am happy and satisfied owner.
